The European Union Statute and the Constitution of Hungary declares and recognizes the right of every human being to live as a person of equal dignity. Equal opportunities and social inclusion are primarily a state task, but this state task can only be achieved if there is effective legal protection, under which the aggrieved party can seek redress.
In case of violation of the requirement of equal treatment, the effective legal remedy is the Act on Equal Treatment, which states that natural persons, groups of natural persons and organizations residing in Hungary shall be treated with equal respect and care, with equal consideration of individual aspects (excerpt from the preamble of Act CXXV of 2003 on Equal Treatment and the Promotion of Equal Opportunities).
